SPRING GARDEN TOUR REPORT: Artists-in-the-Gardens Of Sustainable Beauty - Gardens For All Life - North Coastal San Diego County - April 2024

For the second year in a row the San Diego Horticultural Society partnered with the Association of Professional Landscape Designers, San Diego Chapter to bring you the Spring Garden Tour, and this year the location was North Coastal San Diego County.

A high percentage of the members of the APLD - SD are also SD Hort members, in fact, two of them are past Horticulturist of the Year recipients! We are incredibly lucky to have been able to collaborate in this way on SUSTAINABLE BEAUTY - Gardens For All Life - Spring Garden Tour of Encinitas, Olivenhain, Leucadia and environs. There were big gardens and small, old and new, all aimed at inspiring gardeners of all types that sustainable gardens can also be beautiful.

Artists-in-the-Gardens - a tradition continues!

Editor's note: Please give volunteer Barbara Raub a huge round of applause for the outstanding job she does each and every year organizing the Artists-in-the-Gardens at our garden tours.

She is an established artist and avid gardener in her own right who selflessly showcases the gardens and art of others during each garden tour.

Bravo!

The San Diego Horticultural Society loves to feature plein air artists in the gardens on our spring tour each year. It is so inspiring to experience a garden through the eyes of an artist as they interpret the garden in a painting which captures that moment in time. Each year, I love to match up artists with the gardens, paying close attention to the personal style of the garden and garden owner, as well as the artistic style and personality of the artist. Because of this, for one reason or another, not all the gardens had an artist.

A good match creates artistic synergy!

As not all our members had the chance to come on the tour, and even most of those attending only caught a portion of the painting as it was being created, we are pleased to introduce you to each artist and give you a look at their painting(s).
