Meet The Trees - Bonsai Appreciation Through Demystification

On July 10th, 2023, at CBI, in-person attendees will be able to see Bonsai trees up close and meet them - touch the trees, see the tools used for styling, and then even help Kyle prune a tree or two.

From https://www.sandiegobonsaiclub.com/favorite-tree.html Kyle Icke: Favorite Tree - Elm

Although this will be a hybrid meeting, a portion, if not all, of the in-person audience will have the opportunity for some audience participation and be able to try their hands at some Bonsai tree pruning. We’ve never done a hybrid meeting that includes participation of the in-person attendees before and are excited to blaze new hybrid meeting trails with Kyle’s help.

It is our intention for this meeting to be as interesting and informative for those joining in on Zoom and only seeing the PowerPoint presentation, as it will be for those in-person at CBI.

Kyle's favorite bonsai is this elm called Sea Serpent.
Favorite Tree - San Diego Bonsai Club "My favorite bonsai is this elm that I call Sea Serpent. We were coming back down from LA on a bonsai bus trip and stopped at a mom-and-pop nursery that was going out of business. The owners didn’t speak English but helped me understand that if I dug up this elm that had broken through its pot and grown into the ground, I could have it for 15 bucks! So that is what I did. After I got it home, it did great and I loved it... but so did the deer. Twice. After that the poor thing went to sleep and didn’t wake up for six months. But now it’s doing pretty darn good and it’s getting ready for its first haircut of the year. It's hard to pick favorites, but this tree's tenacity put it on top." - Kyle Icke, 1st VP, San Diego Bonsai Club
