Tyler Trimble has certainly earned the nickname of “Mr. Trees.”

As a third-generation farmer, a fruit tree specialist, and longtime nurseryman, he has personally planted over 10,000 fruit trees in Southern California soils over the past 20+ years.

Before launching his own business, Backyard Fruit San Diego, he was a manager at Walter Andersen Nursery in Point Loma for about ten years. He currently maintains a collection of exotic varieties and has created his own “food forest” orchard, with over 200 fruit trees.

Among his passions, he lists fruit tree health, orchard design, propagation, variety selection, soil science, permaculture, regenerative farming, and control techniques for insects, pests, and diseases.

And he’s an expert in the art of pruning fruit trees.

July 2025 Anne Murphy brought in a delightful bouquet of nine species of flowering California native plants, and this is just one of those beauties.  She hopes that seeing these lovely specimens will encourage members to plant more natives in their gardens. Photo credit: Karen England.

The Plant Forum has returned!

Did you bring your plant or plants to the meeting to share? Hope so and if not, consider bringing plant material to the next general meeting you attend.

Thank you in advance for participating.

Each month the newsletter has an article about the plants shared at the previous meeting, check it out!
