AUGUST MEETING: Kate Sessions’ World Wide Web of Horticulture

Zoom meeting! Monday, August 10, 2020 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

By Nancy Carol Carter

Kate Sessions is well known as a San Diego local and regional horticultural influence, but her place within a large professional network of horticulturists is less well-known. This presentation reviews the personal biography of Sessions and introduces many of the botanists, nursery owners, landscapers and others within her national and international circle of friends and correspondents. Sessions worked with John McLaren, Liberty Hyde Bailey, Hugh Evans, Alice Eastwood, Theodore Payne, the Huntington’s William Hertrich and many other great names in horticulture. Join landscape historian Nancy Carol Carter for this online zoom presentation.

Nancy Carol Carter is a frequent community speaker. She researches and writes about horticultural history and has published in Pacific Horticulture, Eden, the Journal of San Diego History and California Garden. Balboa Park and the life and work of Kate Sessions are two special areas of her research. Carter serves on the boards of San Diego Floral Association and the California Garden and Landscape History Society. She volunteers with Friends of Balboa Park and the Balboa Park Conservancy and is retired from the University of San Diego School of Law.
