MONTHLY MEETING: Jeff Moore on Soft Succulents

Speaker: Jeff Moore.

On Monday, March 12, 2018, the San Diego Horticultural Society welcomes Jeff Moore, owner and operator of Solana Succulents in Solana Beach for the past twenty-four years.

Soft Succulents, Jeff’s upcoming book, focuses primarily on Aeoniums, Echeverias, Crassulas, Sedums, Dudleyas, and other softer, non-spiny succulents. His talk will focus on the plants mentioned in his book and go into more detail on these plants in cultivation. He will share his knowledge on an array of succulents for the garden—some common, some not often seen, but all guaranteed to intrigue us with their amazing colors and textures.

Jeff has created many award-winning gardens at the annual San Diego County Fair, where he has won the SDHS award for “Most Creative Use of Unusual Plant Material" several times. Over the years, he’s also been a multi-award winner at the Spring Home/Garden Show. Jeff gained notoriety for his undersea themed succulent gardens, one of which you can see at the San Diego Botanic Garden; another was an invited showcase garden at the prestigious Philadelphia Flower Show. In addition to these, he created many other unique Southern California succulent landscapes.

Jeff has authored two other books: Aloes and Agaves in Cultivation, and Under the Spell of Succulents: A Sampler of the Diversity of Succulents in Cultivation.

The evening starts early, at 5:30, with a special Succulent Plant and Pottery Fair, at Congregation Beth Israel, 9001 Towne Centre Drive, San Diego. Parking is free and everyone is welcome. Admission is free for SDHS members and $15 for non-members. For more information, call (619) 296-9215 or visit www.sdhort.org.
