Speaker: Debra Lee Baldwin.
On Monday, October 9, 2017, the San Diego Horticultural Society welcomes Debra Lee Baldwin, award-winning garden photojournalist, author, SDHS 2017 Horticulturist of the Year, and widely hailed "Queen of Succulents."
We're launching Debra's new book! Debra Lee Baldwin will bring, warm from the presses and completely revised, the 10th anniversary, second edition of the book that launched global interest in succulents and made horticultural history: Designing with Succulents. As she shows gorgeous photos (many taken right here in San Diego) from her new book, you'll discover practical and appealing uses for succulents, and how to use these low-water lovelies to enhance gardens large and small. And because we're Debra's "home club" (she's a lifetime SDHS member), she'll share her vision for the future of San Diego gardens. Yes, these include succulents, but Debra will explain what works and what doesn't, plus which low-water companions and design elements you can use to create a distinctive, regionally appropriate, nature-wise, eye-catching, and easy-care landscape.
Debra Lee Baldwin helped launched the gardening world's interest in succulents in 2007 with her first book, Designing with Succulents, and with her two other books, Succulent Container Gardens and Succulents Simplified. Debra's own half-acre garden has been featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Sunset, San Diego Home and Garden, and other publications.
Debra will be signing her books before and after her presentation.
The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Congregation Beth Israel, 9001 Towne Centre Drive, San Diego with a special Succulent Plant and Pottery Faire. Parking is free and everyone is welcome. Admission is free for SDHS members and $15 for non-members. For more information and directions, call (619) 296-9215 or visit sdhort.org.
